Contributing Breeds

The following dog breeds (purebred and mixbreed combinations) went into the creation of the Tamaskan Dog breed (original Foundation Dogs as well as recently approved outcrosses):

  • Alaskan Malamute
  • Alaskan Noble Companion Dog
  • American Wolfdog
  • Canadian Eskimo Dog
  • Czechoslovakian Vlcak
  • German Shepherd
  • Greenland Dog
  • Groenendael / Tervuren Dog
  • Husky (Alaskan / Finnish / Hedlund / Labrador / Siberian)
  • Marxdorfer Wolfshund
  • Northern Inuit / Utonagan / British Timber Dog / Caledonian Wolfalike
  • Saarloos Wolfdog
  • Samoyed
  • Svensk Varghund
  • White Swiss Shepherd (Berger Blanc Suisse)

Please note that simply combining two (or more) of these listed breeds together does not automatically create a “Tamaskan Dog”. The same is true for combining a registered Tamaskan Dog with a random dog of one of these listed breeds.

The Tamaskan is officially recognized as a unique breed and the breed’s development and specific bloodlines are carefully monitored by the International Tamaskan Register (ITR). Every registered adult Tamaskan Dog must be fully health tested (with excellent results) and DNA profiled (to verify parentage and be included in the international Tamaskan DNA database) in order to qualify for breeding.

Only ITR approved outcross dogs, accepted by the ITR’s Committee of Breeders (CoB) are considered legitimate and only offspring from ITR approved outcross litters qualify for ITR registration. More breeds may be added to this list in due time, at the CoB’s discretion.
